Artists: Guðmunda Guðrúnardóttir

Guðmunda is a 33-year-old historian, alongside history, she took art as a secondary subject. Her field of interest is particularly focused on women's history, and it's her dream to make the role of Icelandic women in the development of our society and culture more visible. Guðmunda is the founder of the Instagram page Icelandic Women Artists (ísl. íslenskar listakonur), where her guiding light was to draw attention to the many female artists who contributed to the Icelandic art scene in the 20th century.

"I myself am not educated in art, but I created these mixed media images in the beginning of 2018. It was my way of venting the anger that was simmering inside me following the #MeToo movement. Since October 2017, I had been following and reading accounts of the miserable conditions women have had to suffer through within sports, in the labor market and just everywhere. The guardians of the patriarchy who were busy excusing men's behaviour and belittling the experiences of the women who stepped forward and spoke, did not help. The result is this series, Judith with the Head of #NotAllMen. In addition to the series, there is one image where the subject is Timoclea and not Judith, and that image is called "Timoclea by the Well, Actually." The subjects of the works are two strong female characters who refused to let men take the power out of their hands.
